The Silver Hen began almost by accident. Founder and illustrator Nikki started by creating front covers, for free, for her local community magazine in Brighton’s North Laine during lockdown down. When residents began asking if they could buy the illustrations, she turned them into greeting cards.

For the past three years, her distinctive Brighton scenes have sold consistently in two of Brighton’s most popular independent greeting card shops, giving The Silver Hen its beginnings as a small independent publisher. Now the collection is growing beyond Brighton, with new designs and ranges created for stockists across the UK.

The Silver Hen creates illustration-led cards with wit, warmth and a touch of the unexpected — cards designed not just to be sent, but to be kept.

The Silver Hen is also expanding its collection with quirky new work from licensed artist Gerald Hawksley.
